The Congested Mind

Hi Reader

We tend to our kitchens. We scrub the counters, we throw out what has spoiled, we are scandalized by a single fly. And then we carry around a mind we haven't cleared in days, thoughts gone slightly off, the same three worries circling like flies of their own, and we call this normal. We call this thinking.

Mental congestion is real, and it is not a moral failing. The mind takes in energy the way the body takes in air, and not all air is clean. A difficult conversation, a doom-scroll, a worry borrowed from someone who was only too happy to lend it: these accumulate. The thoughts thicken. Clarity, which is the mind's natural state, is like water; it gets clouded by what we've stirred into it.

This is where will comes in. And this month, will is where we begin.

Bring Divine Purification to a congested mind the way you would open a window in a stale room.

You cannot force a room to be fresh; you can only let the fresh in. Awaken the message. Direct it, with your will, toward the congestion. Ask it to filter what has thickened, to carry off what is not yours, to return the mind to its clear state. You are not manufacturing clarity. Clarity is already there, underneath. You are only removing what obscures it.

There's a temptation here, and I'll name it because you'd catch me if I didn't: the temptation to turn purifying the mind into one more anxious task. To scrub at a thought until you've polished a groove into it. That is not this. If you find yourself straining, you've slipped from purification into mere worry wearing cleaner clothes. Ease off. Intend, then let the message do the work.

Later in this journey we'll speak of allowing, of the deeper purification that asks almost nothing of the will at all. But not yet. For now, this is enough: meet a clouded mind with a clear intention, and watch the light come back through.

The window was always there.

Be well and stay well
